How sparse is too sparse? How minimal can a room be before it becomes sterile and utterly devoid of comfort? That’s a fine line, and it’s different for us all. There’s something very interesting here; stark, structural simplicity blended tidily with a beautiful wash of snow swept countryside. A very striking combination when done right. One must admit that there is a raw, organic comfort in spaces like these; with uncomplicated, almost spartan furnishings, the emphasis is placed on the surroundings rather than the interior. It’s so easy to recognize interior beauty when the exterior grandeur is on point, and this room exemplifies that premise. When it comes to SnowPorn, I don’t normally feature exteriors; however, this particular photo spoke to me. And what it said was pretty good. It spoke to me in the cold, craggy beauty of the rugged mountains lining the horizon. Who wouldn’t love that view, right? Some spaces are cheerful and bright, while others are brooding and reflective and moody. This room has a lot on its mind, but you wouldn’t be able to tell with its clean, unobstructed lines and minimally structured aesthetic. For a sparsely decorated room, there are just enough elements to provide an open, rustic tone, and just enough of the comfort notes to add a touch of warmth to hold the winter chill at bay. Peaceful. Some rooms exude it….some don’t. This week’s space lives up to every meaning of the word. It features many of the usual modern architectural elements; large windows, unobtrusive furnishings, and a sharpness to detail that highlights the interior design as much as the surroundings outside. Great architecture incorporates both sides of the coin and blends the two seamlessly, and it works here. It’s quiet, rustic, simple, and the rich wooden hues add a warmth to contrast the frost outside. Give me some coffee, and I’m there (although I’d still be there even if I didn’t have coffee).
