Some rooms are cozy…some are minimally sparse…some evoke peace, some exude class…others just make you want to get down to business. This week’s space would inspire me to get all old school and break out the typewriter (yes, typewriter), light the ol’ pipe, throw a few ice cubes in the tumbler, and get to work. It’s a slightly cramped, lived in space, but it’s that worn ambiance that gives it a dose of true character. This room has seen and heard many stories; this room has life. Freshness. In a word, this week’s space conjures up the word ‘freshness’. Maybe it’s the cool richness of the hardwood floor, or the warm natural light flushing in from the large windows. Either way, it is fresh, ambitious, creative, and far from ordinary. Books stacked all the way to a tiled ceiling, accompanied by comfy little bed. The perfect combination. If only the words in those books would visit the sleeper each night…what wonderful dreams they’d create. This is most certainly a book lover’s room. Let the daydreams commence.

Coffee and snow; two things that pair excellently. By themselves, they’re great…throw in a kick ass wintry view, and the stock rises exponentially. This week’s space would be the perfect way to enjoy both of them…and then some. Large, airy cooking space, a wood fired stove…a lovely little place to eat, andoff to the corner, a small comfort nook to sit and reflect (and guzzle that coffee). Mornings here would most certainly recharge the soul. Let the daydreams commence.

I’ll admit it; many of the spaces featured here each week are not quite (ok, not at all) immediately attainable for the normal folks like myself. But…that’s where the daydream aspect comes into play. However, it’s fun to feature more true to life spaces when I come across them. This week’s space is just that. Attainable, asthetic, fun, colorful, unique, creative, bold, and bright. I threw all of those words at it because it is a great example of how a love of books can visually transform a room and provide deep character. This is definitely a book lover’s room. How sparse is too sparse? How minimal can a room be before it becomes sterile and utterly devoid of comfort? That’s a fine line, and it’s different for us all. This week’s space is my kind of space (I do love them all, though); clean lines, minimal elements, and large windows. A great theme of home libraries is just that; a marriage of those two concepts, visually appealing, and structurally useful. This week’s selection has a sublime mix of simplicity and sophistication with its industrial elements and expansive windows. Its crafty little details just scream comfort, and the ladder? C’mon. There’s something very interesting here; stark, structural simplicity blended tidily with a beautiful wash of snow swept countryside. A very striking combination when done right. One must admit that there is a raw, organic comfort in spaces like these; with uncomplicated, almost spartan furnishings, the emphasis is placed on the surroundings rather than the interior. As a result, both elements are enhanced considerably. And the little stout stove? Perfection. Let the daydreams commence.
