This week’s space is somewhat of a cross between Library Lusting and SnowPorn; we have all of the wintry goodness of one, coupled with the literary beauty of the other. This room is a neat little mix of rugged, rustic charm, with just enough of each element to keep it minimal and yet still comfortable at the same time. That’s a hard combination to achieve. And c’mon…snow, a stout little potbelly stove, and books just go together like peanut butter and jelly. Give me a hot cup of coffee and I’m set. Let the daydreams commence.

How sparse is too sparse? How minimal can a room be before it becomes sterile and utterly devoid of comfort? That’s a fine line, and it’s different for us all. This week’s space is my kind of space (I do love them all, though); clean lines, minimal elements, and large windows. Sometimes you just crave comfort; the ability to sit back, kick the feet up, and just chill. This week’s space is that kind of place. It’s got that quiet, subdued, organic, laid back vibe that would mesh well with sunny afternoons, dreary rainy days, and every day in between. It’s got just enough rough hewn elements to give it some edge, and just enough comfort tones to make you want to dive right in. The tidy little book collection doesn’t hurt either. I’ll have to admit that this particular space may not be for everyone. BUT, for those with a penchant for solitudinous beauty, this room has value. Here, the major sticking points are in the minor touches; as if more is accomplished with less. Large, expansive windows open up the room and flood it with gorgeous natural light, and the space is warmed gently by the judicious use of wood throughout. What gets me is the lack of material elements which often clutter a space; in this area, we only see some essential items. A space to rest and a space to work, which wonderfully highlights the paramount bit; the immensity of the view. Perfection. Let the daydreams commence.

Man, this week’s space really gives one the urge to take a bath. The room exudes a powerful sense of quiet and calm, and the angular, minimal aspects provide a clever dose of mind clearing peace. This space is oozing with de-stressing mojo. And the view? No words necessary. Let the daydreams commence.

Sometimes, many different flavors can combine to create one larger, greater concoction. Such is the case with this week’s space. This room is somewhat of a gumbo; many varied elements and premises all tossed carefully and creatively into one large stew pot. We’ve got some comfort elements (plush chairs and a sofa) for maxing and relaxing, a studious little nook (a great little desk and window pairing) for taking care of business, a fireplace for a little heat and crackle, and a mass of books so large that this room could double as the east wing of your local library. It has it all, and it just works. This is without a doubt a book lover’s room. Let the daydreams commence.

Is it just a room, or is it something more? At first glance, one may not celebrate its ambiance. At first glance, it looks like, well…just a room. Nothing more than a bed and a window; but what’s on the surface can often be deceiving. What’s celebrated here is simplicity; in the rugged, organic structure of the bed, complemented thoughtfully by the sturdy nightstand, all while gently being watched over by a minimal floor lamp. But all of that frames the highlight of the space…the window. That lush, sylvan view adds just a touch of beautiful complication to the stillness. Let the daydreams commence.

Peaceful. That word sums this space up succinctly. Soft natural sunlight flooding over the room by way of a massive floor to ceiling window, a sturdy workspace, a comfy chair pulled close to it for some close proximity relaxation, and a beautiful wall of books. There's something very interesting here;
stark, structural simplicity blended tidily with a beautiful wash of snow swept countryside. A very striking combination when done right. One must admit that there is a raw, organic comfort in spaces like these; with uncomplicated, almost spartan furnishings, the emphasis is placed on the surroundings rather than the interior. As a result, both elements are enhanced considerably. And the little stout stove? Perfection. Let the daydreams commence.

A great theme of home libraries is just that; a marriage of those two concepts, visually appealing, and structurally useful.
